Flowtron Therapy

What is Flowtron Therapy?

Flowtron Therapy is a clinically effective, non-invasive therapy which uses intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) to treat a wide variety of vascular, circulatory and lymphatic conditions.

How does Flowtron Therapy work?

The sysytem shown contains calf, thigh and foot garments. Depending on the treatment, a garment is worn and connected to the flowtron pump via flexible tubes The garment is controlled to inflate intermittently to stimulate the flow of blood through the deep veins.

As the garment inflates, it compresses the veins and pushes the blood back towards the heart. The garment then deflates again after a controlled time. This action copies how the veins are squeezed by the muscles when you walk. Intermittent compression also helps to break down some of the proteins in the blood that can cause blood clots.

What conditions can Flowtron Therapy help?

Flowtron Therapy is generally accepted as a treatment method for preventing blood clots or deep venous thromboses (DVTs) and complications of venous stasis in persons after trauma, orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, or in disabled persons who are unable to walk or mobilise effectively.

It is also used in ambulatory persons who suffer from Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) or from chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) of the legs and consequent oedema, stasis dermatitis, ulcerations, and cellulitis. CVI of the legs is caused by abnormalities of the venous wall and valves, leading to obstruction or reflux of blood flow in the veins.

What are the benefits of Flowtron Therapy?

Flowtron Therapy has been shown to reduce pain, increase venous and lymphatic flow, enhance circulation, provide a drier post-operative field and reduce wound haematoma.
